The French Campaign in Egypt was an attempt of French General Napoleon Bonaparte to undermine Britain's access to India and protect French trade interests. It began with the Mediterranean campaign of 1798, a series of naval engagements that included the capture of Malta. After some years of struggle Napolionic army was forced to withdraw by the British army back to France. Some paintings depicting the most important moments of the campain are beneath.
